An important step in the test development process is the Beta exam, during which data is gathered so that the test questions can be analyzed and passing score set. During the Beta, the exam is given to qualified candidates under normal testing conditions. However, Beta exam candidates will not be given their results until 6-8 weeks after the close of the testing window.
After the Beta window closes, psychometricians will analyze the results of the exam and the performance statistics for each question. The analysis focuses on many factors, such as technical accuracy, question difficulty and reliability. A group of FP&A subject matter experts will then be convened to determine the cut score (minimum passing score) for the exam. After this has been completed, individual results will be mailed to each Beta candidate.
